Danse De Guacamole

for flute and piano – 3m30s

PROGRAM NOTE

This piece was written for the New Jersey Flute Society. As I wrote the piece, I was influenced by the beat and harmony of latin dance music, particularly in salsa. I thought about how salsa itself is also a traditional dip, and whether this piece projects that type of flavor to the listener. Sticking with dips, I have come to the conclusion that guacamole was a better fit for the piece. This dip in particular is a very traditional Mexican dip, mostly made with avocados, tomato, onion, cilantro and lime juice. I could imagine how these different ingredients dance together in harmony to create a unique flavor. The creaminess from avocados, tanginess of limes and the slight spice from onions and cilantro, with no ingredient overpowering the other.

I hope you may enjoy this piece as much as I did writing it!
